History was made in LSA today.

Finally version 1.4.0 of CVS was ready and we had a successful voting session at school today. All the teachers were very happy with it and all of them alongwith lots of students congratulated us and displayed their appreciation on our effort.

The voting went very smooth and fast and no confusion or stampede took place as it had always done. It took around 3~4 hours with the students coming class by class and lining up according to their houses and then casting their votes on the respective computers (1 per house). Archit and I were running around since 8 am setting things up, getting them ready and hoping that nothing goes wrong, and I thank God that it went fine.

There was media coverage too, as this was apparently the first time in India that a school’s council election process was carried out electronically and that a couple of students made such a software for the school. We were interviewed by reporters from NIE, The Hindustan Times and a couple other newspapers. Some random voters were also questioned as to how they liked the new system and they sounded pretty happy and satisfied with CVS, and all of this made us beam with pride and happiness.

When we were informed that our software would be used for the following years as well and also for the Junior Council elections, it made us immensely proud and the hint that we would be given a “Certificate of Appreciation” and our work be announced on the Founder’s Day in the presence of the parents were the icing on the cake. It was really amazing to give back something to the institution which has shaped our lives for the past 10 years and make history for the school.

We thank Ma’am J. Mishra and Sir N. Motilal for all their support and encouragement throughout which really made the difference…

I hope that we can continue updating the software and keep adding new features and making it even better.

Long time since the last post I made.. Been busy with stuff.

I finally quit WoW, as I hit 70 on my shaman, cleared Karazhan, got some epics.. and finally lost the inclination to go on..

Computer was screwed up this month.. first the processor started overheating, then some worms infected the hard-disk and stuff. So I was computer-less for over 3 weeks.. bad days…

My cousin bro got happily married as we suffered the blistering heat of Allahabad last week… Was a horribly fun trip… pun implied… it was horrible and fun ;)

So.. as the summer vacations approach, so do the school council elections, but no, I’m not standing for any post, rather me and Archit have been working on overhauling the era-old ballot paper system used @ school to a modern computerised one..

And in this regard we have developed a voting software using Visual Basic [Thanks for the free Express goodness Microsoft, finally something good…], got it approved from the Voting Board and are giving it a few final touches before we unveil it before the school… :) All coding by me.. [Learnt VB in like 1 hr?] and design was a joint effort, Archit came up with a really cool design :)

Photon classes scheduled for today and tuesday were canceled for some reason, probably Malay Sir out of town.. well can’t blame him for wanting to escape the sweltering heat here at Kolkata… Next is on thursday.. can’t wait for it [yeah right..] :P

SAT got postponed to Jun 7, for me i.e., lets see what I’m gonna do with it.. still gotta hit the Vocab Charts.. :P

Okay this has been a long enough post, back to working on CVS - Computerised Voting System  lets see what we do, and how it turns out.. hehe

Yours,~
